Measuring wind direction and speed accurately on overhead lines is vital when calculating dynamic line rating (DLR). DLR is the ability to vary the ampacity rating of an overhead transmission line depending on environmental conditions. The rating will be higher, for example, when it is cooled by wind, allowing more electricity to flow through the line.
